Real Madrid have lifted the Spanish Super Cup for the 12th time after securing a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao in Saudi Arabia.
Luka Modric opened the scoring for Los Blancos in the 38th minute with a stunning long-range effort. Karim Benzema doubled Madrid's lead just before halftime, tapping in a low cross from Rodrygo Goes.
Athletic Bilbao pushed for an equalizer in the second half, but Madrid's defense held strong. The victory gives Real Madrid their first three points in the La Liga title race and extends their unbeaten streak in all competitions to 11 matches.
The match was marred by an injury to Eder Militao, who was forced off in the first half. The extent of his injury is not yet known.
Real Madrid will now turn their attention to the Copa del Rey, where they will face Barcelona in the semi-finals. Athletic Bilbao will face Mallorca in the final of the competition on Saturday.
